Reports came in shortly before 6 a.m. that a Chevy Malibu sedan collided with a parked big rig on east Sir Francis Drake Boulevard near the San Quentin State Prison, said Officer Andrew Barclay, a CHP spokesman.
The driver of a semi-truck carrying a large piece of machinery was parked on the shoulder of the road asleep in the sleeper berth section of the truck when the crash occurred, Barclay said. It is common for trucks in the area to park on the wide shoulders, he said.
The big rig driver was unharmed and remained asleep until a witness to the crash woke him up, Barclay said.
Police were investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.Jenna Lyons is a San Francisco Chronicle staff writer. Email: [email protected] Twitter: @JennaJourno
