SARASOTA, Fla. - UPDATE: The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office reports that all lanes of Fruitville Road east of I-75 to Coburn Road have been reopened. Due to heavy traffic, afternoon commuters are still encouraged to seek alternate routes and use detours when possible.
Additionally, in the next 3-4 hours, drivers can expect all east and westbound lanes to close down again so that the power lines can be reconnected. Officials tell us the re-connecting should take less than an hour.
ORIGINAL STORY: Sarasota County Sheriff's office deputies are on scene of a single-vehicle traffic crash that caused a power line to fall and take up both east and westbound lanes of Fruitville Road just east of I-75.
At this time, all lanes of traffic in both directions have been stopped and are being rerouted.
The I-75 northbound off-ramp going east on Fruitville has also been shut down causing commuters to be redirected westbound on Fruitville Road.
