EPD officers responded to gunshots at the apartment complex where witnesses told the officers that they heard between seven to nine gunshots discharged in the area. Moments later, officers were dispatched to Medical Center Barbour in reference to a patient that had arrived by private vehicle to the emergency room with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his foot. Only one person was reported to have received any injuries in this case. The shooting is still under investigation as officers try to determine the cause of the shooting.
A second gun fire incident which is under investigation, occurred Saturday night, July 1, just before midnight at the Citgo Station on Eufaula Avenue; this incident did not have any reported injuries. According to reports, a large crowd had gathered at the gas station when a fight between two male subjects broke out. Not long after the fight started, 20-30 gunshots were reported to have been fired. It is believed by law enforcement that the shots were fired into the air, thus no reported physical injuries from bullet wounds. There was however some property damage reported to the gas station. Several guns of different caliber sizes were believed to have been fired during this incident. Video recordings were collected as evidence from the scene and will be used to identify those responsible. Warrants will be obtained for those responsible for the incident according to EPD Sgt. Donald Brown. Those who are charged in connection with this incident will misdemeanor charges, possible reckless endangerment, according to Sgt. Brown, who commented that the department does plan on making arrests in this case.
In a third non-related incident, a 19 year-old was shot in the neck at approximately 10:25 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, at the Fairlane Meadows Apartments on South Randolph Avenue according to reports from the EPD. The victim was transported to Medical Center Barbour by private vehicle and later transferred by helicopter to a Montgomery hospital for treatment of his injuries where he was listed in critical but stable condition. A 17 year-old was taken into custody for the shooting and transported to the Southeast Alabama Youth Services Diversion Center in Dothan to await a hearing. The Eufaula juvenile will not be charged with assault according to Sgt. Brown as both parties claim it was an accidental shooting.
